Sean 'Diddy' Combs Refused to Settle Cassie Ventura Lawsuit, Drama Unfolds!.

Music mogul's career took a nosedive due to a public settlement, paving the way for federal charges against him, as revealed in a podcast.

The fallen music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs had a chance to resolve the allegations of rape and physical abuse made by singer Cassie Ventura before she went public, but he turned it down. This decision has led to his career collapse and may have opened the door for federal charges related to sex trafficking and racketeering, as discussed in a new podcast.

This pivotal moment in Combs' life is highlighted in the first episode of Law & Crime’s series The Rise and Fall of Diddy, which is set to premiere on Wednesday.

The series details how Ventura and Combs ended their on-and-off relationship after ten years in October 2018. She later moved on, marrying personal trainer Alex Fine, who Combs had originally hired for her, and they welcomed a child together, mostly steering clear of discussing her past with Combs.

However, after New York introduced a law that allowed for the filing of civil lawsuits for older sexual assault cases, Ventura reached out to Combs again.

“She approached him before filing any lawsuit and said, ‘I felt wronged by you,’” attorney and legal expert Donte Mills shares in the show. “She gave him a chance to settle things before taking legal action.”

Mills, who has insider knowledge of the case, shared that both Sean Combs' and Cassie's legal teams were in discussions to try and settle the lawsuit, but unfortunately, those talks didn’t pan out.

The aftermath of those failed negotiations was explosive. Just hours before New York’s Adult Survivors Act was set to expire in late November 2023, Ventura filed a lawsuit claiming that Combs raped her and subjected her to various forms of abuse—physically, mentally, and emotionally, as highlighted in the Rise and Fall of Diddy.

She also alleged that Combs coerced her into having sex with male sex workers, and these encounters were recorded on video.

It took about a day for the three-time Grammy winner to agree to pay an undisclosed amount to settle Ventura’s claims outside of court. However, this move didn’t stop a wave of other lawsuits from surfacing with similar accusations.

In March, federal authorities launched a sex-trafficking investigation against Combs, raiding his properties in Los Angeles and Miami. By May, CNN had obtained hotel security footage showing Combs assaulting Ventura in 2016, which contradicted his claims of innocence.

In September, authorities took Combs into custody, accusing him of forcing victims of sex trafficking to engage in group sex with his associates while he filmed the acts and masturbated. The legal documents referred to these incidents as “freak offs.” They also noted that these encounters were so draining for both Combs and the victims—who were subjected to various abuses, including being pressured to take drugs—that they often needed IV fluids to recover afterward.

Mills believes that Sean Combs' troubles really started with the lawsuit from Cassie Ventura. This insight comes from the Rise and Fall of Diddy podcast, hosted by Law & Crime anchor Jesse Weber, available to Wondery+ subscribers.

Currently, Combs is in federal custody, awaiting the outcome of his case. On November 27, he was denied bail for the third time, with federal judge Arun Subramanian labeling him a “serious risk” for attempting to tamper with witnesses.

Prosecutors have claimed that while in jail, Combs tried to contact potential witnesses and sway public opinion regarding his case.

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ refusal to settle allegations of rape and abuse with Cassie Ventura before her public lawsuit has had catastrophic consequences. His decision to avoid private resolution led to a series of explosive events, including multiple lawsuits and a federal sex-trafficking investigation.

The legal fallout has tarnished his career and reputation, resulting in federal charges and his arrest. The severity of the accusations, coupled with the disturbing evidence against him, paints a grim picture of a mogul whose actions have spiraled out of control. Combs now faces the prospect of lengthy imprisonment and irreversible damage to his legacy.
