This substantial financial commitment positions him as one of the most significant individual financial supporters of a presidential campaign, highlighting the considerable influence wielded by one of the world's wealthiest individuals in the current electoral landscape.
Recent disclosures to the Federal Election Commission indicate that Musk contributed a total of $238 million to a super PAC he established this year, known as America PAC, which focused on mobilizing voters in favor of Trump in critical states.
Additionally, Musk provided financial support to various organizations that emerged in the final stages of the election to bolster Trump's candidacy, including one that allocated millions for advertisements aimed at defending his stance on abortion. Through a trust named after him, Musk donated $20.5 million to the RBG PAC on October 24, as per the Federal Election Commission filings. Clara Spera, Ginsburg’s granddaughter, publicly criticized the advertisements, which aimed to mitigate abortion as a potential liability for Trump during the campaign, labeling them as misleading and an affront to Ginsburg’s legacy as a vigorous advocate for abortion rights.
The new filings also reveal that Musk contributed $3 million to the MAHA Alliance, a super PAC that ran impactful advertisements in key swing states, encouraging supporters of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to support Trump in the final phase of the campaign. Kennedy had suspended his independent campaign earlier in the summer and subsequently endorsed Trump.
MAHA represents "Make America Healthy Again," a reinterpretation of Trump's MAGA slogan by Kennedy. Trump has appointed Kennedy, a leading figure in the anti-vaccine movement, to lead the Health and Human Services Department.
Musk has become a significant figure within Trump's circle as the transition to a second presidential term unfolds. The president-elect has selected the tech entrepreneur, along with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, to head a newly established Department of Government Efficiency, abbreviated as DOGE, which is focused on reducing government expenditures.
