Mandy Moore Faces Backlash After Asking for Money During L.A. Fires.

Mandy Moore and her extended family have experienced significant distress due to the wildfires in Los Angeles. However, her appeal for financial assistance through social media did not resonate well with her fans.

Earlier this month, Mandy disclosed that her residence in Altadena remained intact, although the garage, music studio, and rear section of the main house sustained considerable damage during the fire that swept through their community. Unfortunately, her brother-in-law and his family faced a more devastating outcome.

The following day, Mandy shared that Griff and Kit had “lost their home and everything they own in the Eaton fire.” This prompted her to urge fans to contribute financially, if possible.

"With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever," she captioned the post. "Griff is a touring musician and also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion he uses to make a living. It’s all so much.”

The This Is Us star continued, “So many have asked how to help during this unimaginable and stressful time … Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild."

The actress appeared to be bracing for criticism, as she openly responded to rumors regarding her and her husband's lack of personal financial contributions to assist their family.

"And people questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic," she said. "Of course we are."

"Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe and i’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them," Mandy continued. "We just lost most of our life in a fire too." She concluded, “Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything."

Numerous fellow celebrities rallied in support of Mandy, including Spencer Pratt, a former star of The Hills, whose own family experienced the loss of their home due to the fires and has sought financial help from fans via social media.

Mandy's family's GoFundMe campaign successfully garnered $200,000 in contributions before the organizer disabled it on January 12. An update was provided. "In the last 24 hours we’ve raised more than anyone could’ve imagined. This community has absolutely blown us away; I’m speechless."

Mandy has removed her Instagram post in which she solicited donations. The actress is estimated to have a net worth of $14 million. She is married to musician Taylor Goldsmith, and together they have three children.

Mandy Moore's request for financial donations amidst the devastating L.A. fires sparked significant backlash. While her intentions to help her brother-in-law and his family were genuine, many fans criticized her for seeking public donations despite her own wealth. The situation was further complicated by her public defense, which seemed to imply that questioning her financial contributions was unfair.

While celebrities often have platforms to mobilize support, asking for donations when they themselves are financially comfortable can come across as tone-deaf. The backlash highlights the sensitive balance between leveraging influence for good and appearing disconnected from public sentiment.
