Dr. Laura Schlessinger Lists California Estate for $23M
Dr. Laura Schlessinger Lists California Estate for $23M.
Dr. Laura Schlessinger, widely recognized as Dr. Laura by her numerous radio listeners and currently hosting a live call-in program on SiriusXM, is in the process of downsizing her expansive oceanside estate, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. She has placed her Santa Barbara property, where she has resided and worked for approximately two decades, on the market with an asking price of $23 million.
This price is slightly higher than the $22.85 million she sought in 2021, when she entered into a contract for the sale, which ultimately did not materialize. In her conversation with the WSJ, she expressed that despite her deep emotional connection to the home and her ambivalence about departing, "they're going to hand me a check and I'll change my mind."
In 2005, Schlessinger acquired the estate alongside her late husband, Lewis Bishop, who passed away in 2015, for just over $6.1 million. The property encompasses nearly four acres and features a multi-structure compound with a total living area of 8,788 square feet, comprising six bedrooms and seven bathrooms distributed among the main residence, guesthouse, and private apartment. Additional amenities on the grounds include tennis and pickleball courts, a swimming pool and spa, a koi pond, and a walking trail that encircles the property. Further details can be found in the listing.
"A symphony of sea and sky unfolds at this coastal retreat, redefining luxury living in Santa Barbara. This private estate celebrates matchless ocean & Channel Island views through sunlit windows, while the main terrace merges with the horizon—a sublime gathering space where evenings linger by the glow of the fireplace…What elevates this 3.75-acre estate is its rare, predominantly flat terrain—a precious commodity among Santa Barbara's luxury estates, where generations will weave their stories against the backdrop of California's most treasured coastline."
The listing fails to indicate that the residence is equipped with radio broadcasting facilities, as Dr. Laura has been broadcasting her show from her Santa Barbara home for an extended period. She remarked to the Wall Street Journal, "During commercial breaks, I'm staring at ships going by," she told WSJ. "It's very relaxing."

Currently, she is considering relocating to a smaller residence in another part of Santa Barbara, partly to support her enthusiasm for sailing. She plans to use the proceeds from the sale to take her sailing crew to Europe for competitions, an endeavor that is financially unfeasible in her present home.
