Michael Schumacher’s 2001 Championship Winning Ferrari F1 Car To Be Sold At Auction.

There are race cars, and then there are those legendary race cars that dominate championships.

RM Sotheby’s is set to auction the Ferrari F2001 that Michael Schumacher drove to secure the 2001 Formula 1 World Championship, just ahead of next month’s Monaco Grand Prix. And if that’s not enough to grab your attention, this race car is still operational.

Monaco is the perfect venue for this auction. Schumacher piloted chassis no. 211 to victory in the Monaco Grand Prix during the 2001 season, marking his only win at this prestigious race in his 11-year stint with Ferrari. But that wasn’t the only triumph for this car; he also celebrated victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix that same season. This win secured Schumacher the 2001 drivers’ championship and brought Ferrari the constructors’ championship, marking the first time the team achieved back-to-back titles. All of this makes this car one of the most significant in racing history.

The auction listing features images of chassis no. 211, which looks almost exactly as it did during its racing days in 2001. The open-wheel car sports a striking red-and-white design adorned with vibrant sponsor logos, with Shell’s iconic “Pecten” logo prominently displayed on the nose, sides, and rear spoiler endplates.

One reason the race car is in such great condition is that Ferrari has dedicated the last two years to completely refurbishing it and its naturally aspirated 3.0-liter Tipo 050 V-10 engine. Thanks to this extensive work, the car is still drivable 24 years after its heyday. If the auction winner is feeling adventurous, they could even take it for a spin at Ferrari’s next Corse Client event, fully supported by Maranello.

Chassis no. 211 is set to hit the auction block on Saturday morning, May 24. While the auction listing doesn’t specify a price, you can bet this car will command a hefty sum. Previously, it sold for $7.5 million, which was a record for a modern F1 car at that time, as reported by Road & Track. Now that it’s back on the road, it wouldn’t be shocking to see it go for an even higher price.
