Windsor Smith's Stunning $19.5 Million L.A. Estate Redefines Luxury Design.
Gwyneth Paltrow's decorator spent over 15 years at a half-acre property in Mandeville Canyon. Earlier this year, her stunning Los Angeles home, featuring chic interiors designed by Windsor Smith, sold for $22 million.

Now, just two months later, another impressive residence, which was both inhabited and customized by Smith herself, has hit the market nearby in lower Mandeville Canyon for a slightly lower price of $19.5 million. The listing is held by Cindy Ambuehl from Christie’s International RE Southern California.

In 2007, Smith and her husband bought the rather plain spec-built house for $5.2 million, which she described as “certifiably the least attractive home in the neighborhood” at the time. They were drawn to its beautiful grounds shaded by large sycamore trees and a desirable north-south tennis court.

After making extensive renovations inside and out, she sold the property in a discreet off-market transaction in spring 2023 for just over $16 million to the current owner, Rob Isackson, who is the president of Village Investment Partners in San Francisco.
The two-story, L-shaped home is wrapped in a deep navy blue that appears almost black and is situated in a private gated cul-de-sac on a flat lot of more than half an acre. Inside, the space features five bedrooms and six bathrooms across approximately 6,900 square feet, showcasing much of Smith’s sophisticated black and white design, along with some recent updates by Arrow Development Group and Vesta.

Double front doors lead into a grand foyer filled with natural light, featuring a stylish checkerboard stone floor and an eye-catching staircase. From this space, you can access a cozy living room with French doors that open to the outdoors, while a formal dining room with a coffered ceiling connects to a spacious eat-in kitchen equipped with high-end appliances.

The home also includes a family room, a study, and a recreation room with a wet bar, along with a private primary suite that boasts a fireplace, built-in window seats, and two walk-in closets and bathrooms.

Outside, there's a professional-grade tennis court, which Smith painted in a bold gray on black during her time here, along with a lush lawn that surrounds a rectangular pool and spa. The property features several outdoor lounging and entertaining areas, including an open-air pavilion with a theater, bar, and grill. Additionally, there's a gated motor court next to a three-car garage, which currently has a gym set up in one of its bays.

This stunning property in Mandeville Canyon is a true testament to Windsor Smith’s incredible design expertise. Her ability to transform a unattractive building into a luxurious, stylish retreat is nothing short of remarkable. The thoughtful renovations, coupled with Smith’s signature black-and-white design, create a harmonious and sophisticated living space that is both inviting and impressive.
