Saving money at the airport
We all know that part of going on holiday is first spending a ridiculous amount of money at the airport. Whether that is just getting there to begin with or getting an extra bag on the plane or having a pre-flight breakfast in a café that seems to have their prices 10 times higher than your local one.
London Gatwick has been report numerous times at the cheapest UK airport to fly from, however flights vary massively depending on location and time of year.
There are some ways you can save money at the airport.
Getting to the Airport
Getting to the airport can sometime cost more than the flight itself with the cost of UK trains, airport parking or getting a taxi all being expensive options.
Making sure to book in advance could save you significantly in all areas. Once you have your flights make sure to waste no time sorting your transport.
Gatwick parking 4 months in advance could cost £106 but if you wait until the day of the flight this could rise to £392 for a week of airport parking.
You can also look out for any vouchers or use clubcard points for money off at airports. Some airports offer 10% off if you sign up to their mailing list.
Take food and drink with you
You are allowed to take solid food items which are properly sealed through airport security. Taking an empty water bottle will also go through unnoticed. This way you can fill it up at water fountains or even ask café’s to fill it for you.
Buying food at the airport is often a tradition, breakfast and a pint at 5am before the holiday. However foregoing this for a meal deal can save you a lot, especially if you have a family. This could mean an extra holiday activity or just less stress buying that dinner on the beach.
Save money on baggage
It can often feel easier to spend the money on a checked bag so you don’t have to think about space. However, If you are just going for a week there are many bags which fit lots of items and also fit under the seats on planes. If you didn’t wear it on your last holiday then you probably won’t this time either. Reduce your packing so you can save money!
Worried about liquids? Take the essentials but you can buy shower products and sun cream abroad and they could even be cheaper than buying it in the UK. If you stay in an Airbnb you can often leave them behind for the next guest too.
