7 ways to save money at festivals this year
It’s festival season with Glastonbury beginning today with headline acts from Dua Lipa, SZA and Coldplay. With millions of people planning their festival weekends full of music, dancing and probably a lot of mud after paying for your tickets you might be hoping to keep the costs down once you arrive.
There are lots of ways you can keep to a budget whilst at the festival.
Don’t take expensive camping equipment or clothes
If you don’t already own camping equipment then don’t go and buy an expensive tent or sleeping bags. Although you want to be comfortable whilst there, it is likely that things can get ruined and lost when at festivals. Take a pop up tent or ask around to borrow from friends and family. This will take the pressure off when you’re there of keeping everything in pristine condition.
Taking your best dresses may also be a bad decision, consider taking your comfortable and perhaps cheaper items for the weekend.
Bring your own water bottles
Taking empty water bottles can save you a lot of money on drinks whilst at the festival as you can often find water fountains around the venue and keep the cost of buying from vendors to a minimum.
Take your own food
Again, buying from vendors can be super pricey so try to cut down on this by taking long lasting food with you. Cereal bars and pot noodles are popular camping choices.
Avoid Festival ATM’s
If you need cash at the festival then make sure to take it with you and keep it secure. Some festivals will have ATM’s but these will often charge you a withdrawal fee.
You could volunteer or work at the festival
A great way to see your favourite acts and make some money rather than spending it.
Working with vendors, stewards roles, security and more could allow you free ticketing, cheaper food whilst often being able to get your breaks for your favourite acts.
Take portable chargers
Festivals will often have charging ports however they will charge you to use them. Make sure to take a full portable charger so you can use apple pay and stay in contact with your group.
- Collect cups for cash
In an attempt to become greener festivals such as Reading and Download began a system where festival goers can collect cups that have been left around the venue for recycling and receive cash in return. This won’t be much but could get you a few more pounds for a drink or meal.
