Richard Gere Sells Stunning New Canaan Estate Once Owned by Paul Simon.
A grand mansion in New Canaan, Connecticut, famous for its celebrity connections, has just been sold for $10.75 million. The property was previously owned by actor Richard Gere, who purchased it from music icons Paul Simon and Edie Brickell in 2022.
Unfortunately for Gere, he sold it for $25,000 less than what he originally paid, meaning he took a slight hit on the sale. However, in a chat with the Spanish edition of Vanity Fair earlier this year, Gere mentioned that he and his wife, publicist Alejandra Silva, were gearing up to move to Spain to be closer to her family, so he might be relieved to have found a buyer for the estate.
The mansion, known as the Brockwood estate, is nestled on nearly 32 acres of stunning countryside, which the listing describes as "reflective of the English countryside." The listing continued:
"The spectacular private grounds are completely enclosed creating a discrete sanctuary. Savor the far-reaching vistas, open rolling landscape, woodland trails, rock rimmed brook, natural pond and tumbling waterfall.
Advantageously situated to appreciate the majestic setting, the elegant 5-bedroom main residence, built in 1938 by esteemed architect Harold R. Sleeper, features resplendent period details, soaring ceilings, captivating fireplaces, oversized windows, hand crafted millwork and an abundance of natural light. Grand formal rooms flow to terraced patios, perennial gardens and steppingstones that run down to the pool, waters edge and the rambling, bucolic property."
There's not just the five-bedroom main house; there's also a separate three-bedroom cottage, which means you could technically enjoy a little getaway without ever leaving your property.
Simon and Brickell have called Brockwood their home for nearly two decades, purchasing it in 2002 for $16.5 million. At one time, Gere had ideas of turning it into a sustainable farm, but those plans fell through, and he ended up selling it just two years after the purchase. Now, it’s owned by an LLC linked to a real estate developer named James Hoffman.
The Brockwood estate in New Canaan, Connecticut, is a magnificent property that embodies timeless elegance and natural beauty. Spanning 32 acres of enchanting countryside reminiscent of the English landscape, the estate features a 1938 Harold R. Sleeper-designed five-bedroom main residence with period details, soaring ceilings, and abundant natural light.
Its grounds include woodland trails, a natural pond, a tumbling waterfall, and terraced patios leading to tranquil views. A three-bedroom cottage adds versatility to the property, offering an idyllic retreat. Now sold for $10.75 million, this serene and private haven continues its legacy as a cherished and storied residence.
