Jay-Z refutes claims that an unidentified female was drugged and sexually assaulted by him and Combs at a gathering following the MTV Music Awards in 2000.
An updated lawsuit was submitted in federal court on Sunday, claiming that music industry figures Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl during a party in 2000.
Jay-Z has publicly refuted the allegations via social media, denouncing the lawsuit as a “blackmail attempt” orchestrated by the plaintiff’s attorney. His legal representatives did not provide an immediate response to requests for comment.
Initially filed in October in the Southern District of New York, the original lawsuit did not name Jay-Z as a defendant; however, the amended version identifies him as “Celebrity A” in the initial complaint.
Combs has also denied all allegations against him, including this one, and is currently incarcerated on federal sex trafficking charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty.
The lawsuit claims that the unnamed girl was drugged and assaulted by both Jay-Z and Combs at a party hosted by Combs following the MTV Music Awards in 2000, which took place in New York.
Tony Buzbee, the Texas attorney representing the girl who filed the lawsuit on Sunday, has previously initiated at least 20 civil lawsuits against Combs, alleging sexual misconduct.
In correspondence with Reuters, Buzbee stated that the lawsuit against Jay-Z “speaks for itself.”
“This is a very serious matter that will be litigated in court,” Buzbee remarked.
In the amended lawsuit, Buzbee indicates that his law firm had previously reached out to Jay-Z with a proposal for mediation to settle the matter.
According to the lawsuit, Jay-Z responded to this outreach by filing a lawsuit against Buzbee and allegedly “orchestrating a conspiracy of harassment” against Buzbee and his colleagues, which the attorney claims was an intimidation tactic aimed at silencing his client.
In a social media post, Buzbee asserted that the alleged victim he represents “never demanded a penny” from Jay-Z, emphasizing that “she only sought a confidential mediation.”
Last week, Buzbee filed a lawsuit against the law firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, whose attorneys represent both Combs and Jay-Z, accusing the firm’s legal team of harassing his colleagues.
