Netflix has secured the rights to adapt Ana Huang's romance novel "Twisted Love" along with its sequels into a television series through a seven-figure option agreement.
The description reads, “A steamy new adult series that follows the lives of four best friends and their brooding love interests, riddled with dark secrets from their pasts, as they overcome the obstacles keeping them apart to fall in love.”
Currently, there is no cast associated with the project.
Should it be greenlit for a series, the adaptation of "Twisted" would represent the most recent addition to Netflix's successful portfolio of romance adaptations, following the triumphs of the "Bridgerton" and "Virgin River" series.
Netflix did not provide a comment regarding the agreement.
The "Twisted" novel series, which commenced with "Twisted Love" in 2021, followed by "Twisted Games," "Twisted Hate," and "Twisted Lies," has achieved sales exceeding 12 million copies to date. The inaugural book maintained a presence on the New York Times bestseller list for 60 weeks and has had its translation rights sold in 34 countries.
This franchise has garnered significant popularity within the reader-focused "BookTok" community on TikTok, where the hashtag "#twistedseries" has amassed over 2 billion views, and "#anahuang" has surpassed 1 billion views.
Huang, primarily recognized for the "Twisted" series, has authored 13 books across four series, with total sales exceeding 18 million copies globally. Her most recent release, "The Striker," debuted in October 2024. She is scheduled to publish two additional titles this year: "King of Envy" in April and "The Defender" in October.
